Qualcomm Contest Microsite

Web development

Qualcomm was looking to generate interest within the development community upon release of its new Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine SDK (Software Development Kit). They decided to host a contest soliciting ideas for AI applications that could leverage the power of the new NPE SDK and the Snapdragon processor. I worked with PMG to draft the technical specifications for the project and hone the UX for the contest microsite.

Using the design provided by PMG, I built the microsite and all associated functionality. Notable features include a database backend for storing contest entry data, custom administrator dashboard for easy moderation of contest entries, automated transactional email communication with entrants, and on-the-fly processing of user-submitted images.

Psychological Services of Pendleton

Branding

When this mental health treatment center needed a logo, I drew from the company’s initials to create a stylized monogram. The arrangement of the letters with their curves and spines results in a mark that is at once simple and rhythmic - expressing balance, harmony, and professionalism.

Madame Olivia

Web design & development

An older project, I began working on Madame Olivia in 2010 while studying at the Art Institute of Portland. I partnered with a local writer to create an application that would dynamically serve up “fortunes” – horoscope-like passages tailored to each recipient. I designed the look and feel of the site to compliment the Madame Olivia personality and voice. I also wrote the algorithm for composing readings based on individual criteria as well as the timing function for notifying subscribers whenever a new reading is made available to them.

Eventually the application evolved to include a custom CMS facilitating the adding and editing of passages, a blog where visitors can submit questions directly to Madame Olivia herself, and a paid subscription tier with Stripe integration for payment processing.

Essia Health

Branding

While working as lead designer at McClenahan Bruer, I participated in a number of branding projects. One of these involved a complete re-brand of local healthcare startup Scribes STAT. I created the new company logo, internally referred to as “Empathetic E”, and honed a fresh set of brand colors. The company, renamed Essia Health as part of the rebrand, went on to be acquired by ScribeAmerica.
